Mathare Youth Film Festival(MYFF) is a film Organization from Kenya and around the world registered as a Community Based Organization (CBO) under the Ministry of Youth, children, and social development in Mathare. The organization provides a platform for young upcoming filmmakers to showcase their creativity through media arts. Since 2011, MYFF has been part of a global revolution through film by making and screening films about the issues that affect society today.
Ochieng’, the Event Coordinator offers: “We have fully dedicated ourselves to transforming the livelihoods of the inhabitants of Mathare and its environs through film and photography.”
The Music For Peace Concert will be held on the 21st of September this year to celebrate International Peace Day from 2 pm to 7 pm in Mathare, Nairobi County. The event will bring together about 100 people from the Mathare community to uphold the peace that we experience in our nation and the globe. The event will comprise of CBOs and NGOs from Mathare to share their best practices and develop multi-sector partnerships for a peaceful election. It will also attract residents and artists that are key to promoting peace.
The core objective of the peace concert is to showcase and promote the significance of art through music and cinematography as far as maintaining peace is concerned. Additionally, the goal of the concert is to strengthen sensitization and propagate knowledge in reconciliation and peacebuilding.
The peace concert will consist of music performances from artists like Ambasa Mandela, Browngalnessa, Brown Qaki, Eljay, Melanie, Pesh-Bae, Kris Africana, Patricia, Billian Music Family artists, and Tyra.
During the event, there will be a screening of a documentary based on race as well as a photo exhibition on the event’s theme. The event also acknowledges the contributions of organizations toward promoting peace and will serve as an avenue to forge ahead recommendations that can be upheld by various stakeholders to assume the role of peace ambassadors owing to the fact that Mathare has been mapped as one of the insecure areas in Nairobi, Kenya.
