Dishwashing liquid (or washing-up liquid in British English), often known as dishwashing soap, dish detergent, or dish soap, is a dishwashing detergent. It is typically a strongly foamy blend of surfactants with little skin irritation, and it is mostly used in a sink or bowl for hand washing glasses, plates, cutlery, and kitchen utensils.
Dishwashing liquid has a variety of informal applications in addition to its core purpose, such as producing bubbles, washing clothes, and cleaning oil-stained birds (Wikipedia).
